Last week was a helluva week for me.  I was supposed to fly to Milwaukee for an appointment on Tuesday- in and out in one day.  However, due to flight delays and cancelled flights, I ended up stuck in Milwaukee through Thursday (why couldn’t I get stuck in a city like Paris or Rome???)  After finally returning to the East Coast, I decided I needed a little R&R.  I went down the shore to spend a few days with my parents who live in Barnegat, NJ (just inland from Long Beach Island.)  Quality time with family never fails to cure the effects of the “woe is me” syndrome.

Of course, even while on vacation, I inevitably find myself drawn to the closest lingerie boutiques.  This time, it was Indian Summer in Beach Haven on Long Beach Island, NJ.  The owner, Marla Wink, is quite proud of her assortment…and she should be!  Who would think a bustling beach town with very few year-round residents would need a bra shop?  Before entering, I assumed she would only be carrying casual lingerie that caters to the tourists that browse the myriad shops along Bay Avenue looking to score an LBI logo sweatshirt or a pair of flip-flops.  Nonetheless, I was dead wrong!  Indian Summer has a wide assortment of bras from 28-48 band and from AA to K cup.  She carries quality brands such as Wacoal, Chantelle, Eveden brands Fantasie, Freya and Elomi, Panache and Harlequin, and newcomer Curvy Kate.  A full-busted gal like me was in bra heaven.  In addition, she has cozy PJ sets and robes from the likes of PJ Salvage and luxurious lingerie from brands such as In Bloom and Jonquil.  The best part?  Bra-sized swimwear from Freya, Fantasie, Huit, Panache and Anita among others.  It was definitely worth the trip!

This Tuesday, August 21st, CLO Intimo is hosting a Summer Sample Sale at the Archstone in Murray Hill from 5-10pm.  Sip champagne and nibble on strawberries while browsing the last of the CLO Summer styles as well as the unique jewelry designs of Rebecka Froberg.

Leading lingerie trade show CURVENV runs from August 21st through the 23rd at The Venetian in Las Vegas.  Guests can still register at www.curvexpo.com.

Got any big plans for the coming Memorial Day Weekend?  My focus is on Swimwear rather than Intimate Apparel this week…  As long as this rainy, wet weather blows through before the weekend.  Fingers crossed for sunny skies!  I can’t wait to pull out the bra-sized Fantasie brand bikini top and matching high-waisted bikini bottom I picked up at La Petite Coquette here in the City earlier this season. 

Here are a few Intimate Insights for the Week….

On Wednesday, May 16th, Hanky Panky and Sanrio hosted a party to celebrate the launch of the Hello Kitty for Hanky Panky collection.  The “invite only” Intimate Affair was held at Studio 450 in midtown Manhattan and featured special guest Hello Kitty, a flipbook photo booth, and Sephora Hello Kitty Beauty Express Services for make-up and fragrance.  The venue provided a spectacular view of the City as the sun set to the west.  The DJ was spinning great tunes & guests enjoyed signature Hanky Panky for Hello Kitty cocktails and Hello Kitty cupcakes.  The event was playful and fun and there was a lot of “hot pink” everywhere you looked…  Even Hanky Panky’s Glam Guru, J.D. Breen, colored his hair hot pink to commemorate the collaboration with Hello Kitty!  The event was held in support of The Humane Society of the United States.

CLO Intimo hosted Spring Champagne & Strawberries, Soiree and Sample Sale last Thursday at the Penthouse at Archstone Murray Hill, NYC.  The Sample Sale included designer jewelry by local artist Geri Roucaute’s line, Poupette.  And, high-end sexy accessories brand LELO hosted a multi-brand Sample Sale last week including luxury lingerie brand Jenna Leigh.  Guests snagged pleasure accessories and sexy intimate apparel up to 70% off!

I am co-hosting an Intimate Affair with the US distribution company, Revival Brands, on Tuesday June 5th.  The “invite only” event will feature luxury, Italian hosiery brand Philippe Matignon.  Well-known all over Europe, Philippe Matignon’s high-end hosiery was just introduced to the States last year….  We will be previewing their Fall/Winter 2012 collection.  This exclusive industry event is sure to have you falling for this seasons legwear trends!

Mark your calendar for Tuesday, June 19th, 2012.  The Intimate Apparel Square Club (IASC) is hosting a “H.U.G. Social Event” to raise awareness of the Club’s mission, to raise funds to support the pediatric rehabilitation center at NYU Medical Center’s RUSK Institute and to attract new members to the Club.  The event will be held at Legends Lounge on 33rd Street in NYC and will feature an open bar and light hors d’oeuvres.  Invitations will be sent out in early June.  To learn more about the Club, go to www.thehugaward.org.

Attention Lingerie Designers!  The next edition of the Lingerie Journal Designer Showcase is opening its doors this summer.  They had an incredibly successful show this past February with 10 independent designers showing their lines and a sold out Brand Affair Seminar and Lingerie Exhibition that drew in close to 200 guests including buyers, lingerie retail store owners, independent lingerie designers, wholesale manufacturers, influential lingerie bloggers, and other intimate apparel professionals.  Designers interested in exhibiting at this summer’s show should contact info@lingeriedesignershowcase.com to request an application. Intimate Insight: Bethenny Frankel Models Skinnygirl Smoothers n’ Shapers

Bethenny created the shapewear brand, Skinnygirl Smoothers n’ Shapers, for every woman & every body.  Having the actual women in her life model her collection was the only truthful choice.  Looking good is about having fun and having confidence; it is a state of mind, a certain attitude.  Every woman is a Skinnygirl, no matter what size or shape we are!

Last night’s episode of Bethenny Ever After on BRAVO featured a “behind the scenes” look at the Skinnygirl Smoothers n’ Shapers photo shoot.  Bethenny and her fellow Skinnygirls had a blast modeling the line at the famed MILK Studios.  Here’s the result…..

 

The Collection is currently available online at Bare NecessitiesHer Room and on SkinnygirlShapers.com.  The new SS12 Collection will be launching at select Macy’s stores in May.
