Intimate Insiders, Intimate Affairs and Upcoming Events

31 Jul

I don’t know about you guys… But I’m extremely busy for the next three weeks.  The wholesale market is underway…  I have dozens of appointments over the next three weeks and my evenings and weekends are booked solid with other lingerie related events and parties!  Here’s a quick rundown of the happenings in the biz….

Tonight, Fruit of the Loom is throwing a party to celebrate August Market and to unveil their new FOTL, Inc. showroom on Broadway in NYC.  Guests will be treated to cocktails, light fare, music and more.

The Intimate Apparel Council is gathering together for their next event at the Union League Club in NYC on Wednesday, August 1, 2012.  Marshal Cohen, Chief Industry Analyst of The NPD Group, will present “50 Shades of Intimates” as he discusses trends impacting our industry.  The event is free for members of the Intimate Apparel Council (and their employees.)  The Intimate Apparel Council is a division of the American Apparel and Footwear Association.

The Lingerie Alliance Launch Party and Lingerie Fashion Show is this Saturday, August 4th!  The Intimate Affair will introduce industry leaders, buyers, media and press to the online collaborative community of intimate apparel professionals created by me and my partner, Luis Paredes.  The Fashion Show will feature SS13 collections from Affinitas & Parfait as well as the imaginative designs of independent brands Angela Friedman, Clare Bare Eco Intimates, Dirty Dolls Lingerie, Nevaeh Intimates, Ombrato and With Love Lingerie.  Buyers and Media/Press are welcome to attend the Intimate Affair or they can register to view the designer collections during Market Week.  Affinitas & Parfait will be exhibiting at CurvExpo from August 5th through the 7th while the five emerging, independent labels will be showing their lines at the Lingerie Journal Designer Showcase from August 5th through August 8th at the AKA Hotel, Times Square, NYC.  The Showcase gives buyers the opportunity to meet one-on-one with designers in a relaxed setting.  Buyers looking for innovative, new collections can pre-register for the Designer Showcase at: http://lingeriedesignershowcase.com/attendee-registration/

The bi-annual Lingerie Trade Shows CURVENY and The Lingerie Journal Designer Showcase kick-off here in NYC on Sunday, August 5th.  And then, CURVELV takes place a few weeks later in Las Vegas.

The Best of Intima’s Best Shop Awards will be held in the Penthouse at 230 Fifth Ave on August 5th

On Monday, August 6th, our very own Ellen Lewis (my mentor and founder of Lingerie Briefs) and none other than the fabulous Lingerie Goddess & Sensuality Stylist Margaret Shrum are primary speakers at an event being held at the CURVENY trade show…  The Event called “The Yin and Yang of Lingerie” is presented by LELO and focuses on the margin potential of merchandising pleasure objects in a specialty store setting.  With a strong emphasis on a woman’s confidence and mental and physical health, this seminar will demonstrate how LELO takes the business of pleasure from the back room to the bottom line with style and class within specialty shops.

That same night, CURVENY presents The So Curve Fashion Show featuring dancers who have performed with the original Crazy Horse Paris dance ensemble.  Participating brands include Affinitas, Fantasie and Freya, Hanky Panky, LOU Paris, Simone Perele and Wacoal among others.  Individuals registered to attend CurvExpo in NYC can sign up for various events taking place during CURVENY at: http://www.curvexpo.com/new-york/events-to-attend

Intimate Insiders, Intimate Affairs and Upcoming Events

24 Jul

It’s a very busy time of year for the Lingerie biz.  We’ve hardly recovered from the jetlag resulting from trips to MODE CITY in Paris and other European buying trips earlier this month.  And now we’re headed straight into the busiest few weeks of the year.

Speaking of Europe, I’ve had the privilege of seeing a few SS13 Trend Reports over the past few weeks.  Most of these reports are proprietary, but I’ve got two words for you—floral and coral!  Yes, Tangerine Tango is here to stay….at least for a little while longer.  Although, it looks like it will be used more as an accent color than a primary color.  And designers are playing with the intensity of the color a bit.  In general, the trends are ultra-feminine…. Simply, pretty!  The bold, bright floral prints coming in Spring are fabulous….

Next week is the wholesale Market Week here in New York City.  Buyers from major retailers come in from around the country to meet with their current vendors and to meet-and-greet with potential new vendors.  The focus will be on wrapping up SS13 buys and previewing Back-to-School and Fall 13 assortments.  That is followed by the bi-annual Lingerie Trade Shows CURVENY and The Lingerie Journal Designer Showcase here in NYC.  And then, CURVELV takes place a few weeks later in Las Vegas.  In addition to the Market appointments, buyers and brands are busy attending various other industry related events such as The Best of Intima’s Best Shop Awards on August 5th

And of course, no one wants to miss The Lingerie Alliance Launch Party and Lingerie Fashion Show on Saturday, August 4th!  The Intimate Affair will introduce industry leaders, buyers, media and press to the online collaborative community of intimate apparel professionals created by me and my partner, Luis Paredes.  The Fashion Show will feature SS13 collections from Affinitas & Parfait as well as the imaginative designs of independent brands Angela Friedman, Clare Bare Eco Intimates, Dirty Dolls Lingerie, Nevaeh Intimates, Ombrato Lingerie & Sleepwear and With Love Lingerie.  Buyers and Media/Press are welcome to attend the Intimate Affair or they can register to view the designer collections during Market Week.  Affinitas & Parfait will be exhibiting at CurvExpo from August 5th through the 7th while the six emerging, independent labels will be showing their lines at the Lingerie Journal Designer Showcase from August 5th through August 8th at the AKA Hotel, Times Square, NYC.  The Showcase gives buyers the opportunity to meet one-on-one with designers in a relaxed setting.  Buyers looking for innovative, new collections can pre-register for the Designer Showcase at: http://lingeriedesignershowcase.com/attendee-registration/

REMINDER- The Intimate Apparel Square Club is having their annual Christmas in July Party at the RUSK Institute on 34th Street and First Ave in NYC this Wednesday, July 25th.   Members of the Club and other supporters of IASC and RUSK come together to visit with the children who are suffering from life-altering illnesses or disabilities to spread some “holiday” cheer.  The festive Intimate Affair brings joy to the children and warms the hearts of all those who attend.  If you are interested in attending this special event or want to learn more about how you can get involved in the IASC, feel free to reach out to me.

On Tuesday, August 7th, the Underfashion Club is hosting “A Paris Report” to be presented by Mayouri Sengchanh of Carlin International.  The “Intimate Affair” will feature a report on the MODE City and Interfiliere Trade Shows as well as highlights of the SS14 Season.

The Griffin is the perfect venue for this event which is intended to promote a festive spirit.  Designed by Marc Dizon of the boutique collective Lewis & Dizon, the Griffin is an intimate jewel box filled with fringe-lined velvet banquets, gilded tables, rose-antique mirrors, and reclaimed herringbone floors.  Filigree detailing accentuates the space, and a glittering centerpiece of crystal chandeliers hanging overhead sets the cinematic mood for the room.  The lingerie featured at this event will really radiate against this opulent backdrop.

Intimate Insiders, Intimate Affairs and Upcoming Events

10 Jul

“I Love Paris in the Summer when it Sizzles…”  I can’t think of a more appropriate song lyric to sum up the essence of the annual Salon International du Swimwear and de la Lingerie and Interfiliere held in Paris each July.  The famous trade shows which feature the latest lingerie and swimwear designs from brands around the world as well raw materials such as fabric, embroidery, lace and trims, are wrapping up as we speak….  Although I didn’t attend this year, I can assure you that these shows are “sizzling.”  I look forward to reading (and seeing) the trend reports from my colleagues in the coming weeks.  These shows (which take place concurrently) inspire intimate apparel professionals to do what they do….  To bring you the latest and greatest lingerie and swimwear designs conceivable!

A few Intimate Insights for the week….

There seems to be a new trend in Intimate Apparel Retailing….  I recently introduced you to the ecom site, True & Co.  True & Co. claims to solve our bra fit problems with a proprietary online fit process (sans measuring tape.)  Unfortunately, when I filled out their “simple quiz,” the results revealed that they had no matches for me.  Since then, I’ve discovered two more websites offering intimate apparel in a members-only environment.  Both sites create a customized showroom for members based on your preferences (another “simple quiz.”)  Each site varies slightly.  But the overall concept seems to be the same.

Social commerce company BeachMint  launched their latest site, intiMINT, on May 30th.  They partnered with Dancing with the Stars host, Brooke Burke-Charvet to create the brand.  Available exclusively at intimint.com, the collection includes intimate apparel, loungewear, and sleepwear.

Brooke Burke-Charvet

intiMINT’s launch collection ranges in price from twenty dollars for two pairs of panties to eighty dollars for more substantial pieces.  intiMINT’s monthly membership (twenty dollars) is applied as a credit towards any purchase and is only charged when a member makes her first purchase.  As with BeachMint’s other brands, members receive personalized selections each month matched to their Style Profile with the option to choose items they love or skip the month for no charge.  Members also receive exclusive behind the scenes content and how-to styling tips.

The website AdoreMe.com claims to be the world’s first online lingerie personalized club providing the convenience and luxury of a personal shopping experience.  Upon entering the website, Adore Me members fill out a free lingerie consultation (AKA the “simple quiz”) indicating preferences in color, size, shape, and fit.  Additionally, fun questions such as, “Which Gossip Girl style best fits you?” provides additional insight into each member’s individual tastes.  Based on this style profile, a private showroom is handpicked.  Then, members receive one-on-one attention from lingerie experts who create a new showroom for them each month.  Monthly membership is just $39.95 and includes one set, free shipping and free exchange!  Adore Me offers bras, panties, boy shorts, bathing suits, stockings, leggings, chemises, baby doll, and more!

How do you feel about this type of online retailing?  Do you trust a computer quiz to “match” you with your perfect bra even if an intimate apparel expert had a hand in selecting it for you?  Heck…  If we can trust a “simple quiz” on Match.com or eHarmony to match us with our perfect mate, why not bras?  But I’m beginning to think it’s easier to find the perfect life partner than it is to find the perfect bra!  Thoughts?

Another designer has been added to the line-up of the next edition of the Lingerie Journal Designer Showcase.  I’m excited to report that Angela Friedman will be showing her Versailles Collection alongside independent brands With Love Lingerie, Nevaeh Intimates, Dirty Dolls Lingerie and Clare Bare Eco-Friendly Intimate Apparel.  This season’s show runs from Sunday, August 5th through August 8th at the AKA Hotel on West 44th Street, NYC.  The Lingerie Designer Showcase had an incredibly successful show last February with several independent designers showing their lines and a sold out Brand Affair Seminar and Lingerie Exhibition that drew in close to 200 guests including buyers, lingerie retail store owners, independent lingerie designers, wholesale manufacturers, influential lingerie bloggers, and other intimate apparel professionals.  Buyers are welcome to pre-register here:  www.LingerieDesignerShowcase.com/attendee-registration/

OK….. I may have lied (not intentionally, of course.)  Web development is running a few days behind schedule (to be expected.)  Soooo….  We’re not quite ready for our big announcement.  But I promise it will happen this week.  Follow Bra La Mode & The Lingerie Journal (I’m thinking Wednesday or Thursday latest) to hear about my latest endeavor with Luis Paredes, publisher of The Lingerie Journal.  I’m really excited about this project and can’t wait to share it with the entire lingerie community. It will align all facets of our industry in very unique ways.

Buyers are welcome to register for the upcoming CurvExpo at www.CurvExpo.com.  The Designer Lingerie and Swim Show is being held in NYC from August 5th through August 7th and in Las Vegas from August 21st through the 23rd.

Intimate Insight: Naked Princess Reigns Over the Luxury Lingerie Market

9 Jul

Naked Princess is the new brand in town, although one look at their website reveals that this less than one year old brand is here to stay.  Naked Princess produces luxury lingerie and eco-friendly body products that allow women to incorporate that classic boudoir feeling into their everyday life.  The lingerie is meticulously crafted from luxurious European fabrics including modal and cashmere blends married with clipped, French leavers laces, and many pieces include hand-stitched details.  The beauty and body products are all light and natural; instead of covering things up, they enhance your own natural beauty.  And, all of their products are made right here in the USA.  Naked Princess works to create a world where every woman can live, love, and reign elegantly over her own life and lingerie collection!

Fittingly, this brand was conceived and brought to market by two deeply intelligent and elegant women.  Jordana Woodland is the founder and CEO of the company, while Rebecca B. Frank is co-founder and Chief Creative Officer overseeing all creative, research and product development for the brand.  Rebecca is also creative director for the content in Reign, the lifestyle magazine associated with the brand.

Naked Princess has successfully achieved an elegant and ethereal brand identity which is apparent in the tiniest of details.  Even their gift boxes are branded to convey the sensibility of the brand!  I asked Rebecca and Jordana what inspired the look and feel of the brand.  Rebecca told me that, “Our goal is create a lifestyle that empowers women to be confident in and outside of the boudoir.  Our desire is to have all women experience luxury, romance and femininity.  It’s not about being overtly sexual or obscene.  We believe in a “boudoir state of mind” and truly want women to relish the feeling of beautiful undergarments and luxurious, clean beauty products.”  When the two women sought inspiration, they went directly to Jordana’s collection of antique perfume bottles and vintage lingerie.  “I’ve been collecting antique perfume bottles and vintage lingerie for quite some time,” Jordana says.  “I have always appreciated beautiful details and use this to influence my interiors and environments.  It’s become a lifestyle, actually.  I’ll buy exquisite lingerie strictly for the art of it and never wear the piece.  This is what started it all.  I was sharing my collection with Becca and we both realized that this would make for an interesting collection that really harnesses the European sensibilities of boudoir and the art of dressing.”

Their collection goes far beyond elegance and femininity, though.  The Naked Princess team has worked hard to ensure that each piece is supremely comfortable and that their size range covers a wide variety of women.  Jordana says that their collection is for women who appreciate function as well as form.  “I’ve always been inspired by the intelligent and hard-working women I have met in my life.  There’s so much beauty in being a women and celebrating it.  There’s nothing more inspiring than creating a brand that encourages a woman to experience happiness, love and sexiness, all at once.”  Rebecca is focused on producing a larger size range so that a more diverse group of women can enjoy their luxurious pieces.  “I’m inspired by creating luxury that can be experienced by all women.  Society has treated the most beautiful and skinniest women as the elite and we’re trying to help resolve this conundrum.  This is why we make all of our apparel in a full size range of XS to XL.”

Many brands add a line of beauty products as an afterthought, but Naked Princess has worked hard to develop beauty products that match the sensibility of each collection season after season; and are all natural.  Rebecca graciously described the development process of the lingerie and beauty lines to me, “We feel that there are many parallels between luxury lingerie, beauty and the scents and fragrances that help make special moments all that more memorable.  Instead of treating the apparel line in a seasonal sense, we are inspired by the narrative of a love story and use it to infuse all aspects of the products in all of the product categories.  In the first collection titled “And She Lived Lovely Ever After,” we played with neutral and nude tones that work in both the lingerie and lip products.  Jordana and I worked with our team to create our first custom blended scent, Vanille Blanc –a warm and inviting scent, much like the warmth and comfort provided by the extremely soft cashmere MicroModal blend fabrics we used in the loungewear.  Our second collection, “A Thousand Kisses Deep,” is truly inspired by our muse, Jordana.  We actually looked to her for the sole inspiration for the custom floral scent called Fleur de Vivre, and the all Chantilly lace lingerie.  The creation of the new fragrance is a combination of top notes often worn by Jordana herself.  And the exquisite details of the Chantilly lace highlights Jordana’s love for intricate design.”

So how do you define sexy?  These two elegant women seem to have it figured out. “For me, sexy is about knowing who you are inside…and using that knowledge and confidence to play up those assets on the outside,” says Rebecca.  While Jordana believes that sexy is as simple as a confident smile.

I’ve always been bothered by the heat…  I much prefer the Spring and Fall seasons over the steamy Summer months.  However, hot Summer nights inspire me to pull out some of my favorite sleepwear pieces such as Cami Sets and Rompers in buttery soft modal fabric or rayon blends.  These fabrics drape so effortlessly.  And I’m a sucker for their cool hand…  There’s nothing better against my skin.  Check out the adorable “Prisoner of Love” Teddy I picked up at last week’s Eberjey Sample Sale…  I LOVE IT!

Last Thursday, June 21st, 50 dancers kicked-up their skirts (exposing their Hanky Panky panties) to celebrate the 110th anniversary of the Flatiron building!  The Flatiron “Flashmobseque” was inspired by the historical legend which coined the term, “23 Skidoo.”  It is said that in the first decades of the twentieth century, the ship-like shape of the Flatiron building carved a windy slice in the New York City skyline, which would blow women’s dresses up, exposing seldom seen legs and causing men to loiter and watch.  Local authorities would say “23 Skidoo” to the men, which meant they better stop their gazing and get out while the getting was good.  Hanky Panky sponsored the Intimate Affair by providing Hanky Panky boyshorts for the dancers and stylish Hanky Panky fans for all the flash mobsters!  The site-specific dance theatre performance was choreographed and produced by Shandoah Goldman and was followed by an After Party at the ultra trendy Gershwin Hotel on 27th Street.

CLO Intimo is hosting Champagne and Strawberries Summer Soiree and Sample Sale today, June 26th at Archstone Murray Hill.  The Intimate Affair will also feature the handcrafted jewelry brand Poupette NYC, designed by Geri Roucaute.

Just a reminder: Mode City PARIS is right around the corner.  Be sure to register online for your badge at www.mode-city.com.  The famous Salon International du Swimwear and de la Lingerie and Interfiliere are being held from July 7th through July 9th at the Paris Expo, Porte de Versailles, Pavilion 1.

Attention Lingerie Designers!  The next edition of the Lingerie Journal Designer Showcase is opening its doors this summer.  They had an incredibly successful show this past February with 10 independent designers showing their lines and a sold out Brand Affair Seminar and Lingerie Exhibition that drew in close to 200 guests including buyers, lingerie retail store owners, independent lingerie designers, wholesale manufacturers, influential lingerie bloggers, and other intimate apparel professionals.  Designers interested in exhibiting at this summer’s show should contact info@lingeriedesignershowcase.com to request an application. Space is very limited, so be sure to register quickly.

SAVE THE DATE!  Luis Paredes, publisher of The Lingerie Journal, and I have partnered together to create something truly unique….  We will be officially announcing our latest endeavor on Monday July 9th and will be celebrating our partnership with a Launch Party and Lingerie Fashion Exhibition on Saturday, August 4th.  Space will be limited.  But we will do our best to accommodate everyone that wants to be a part of this special Intimate Affair.  If you would like to be added to our Invite List, please email me at BraLaMode@gmail.com and put “AUG 4th” in the subject line.  I’m really excited about this project and can’t wait to share it with the entire lingerie community. It will align all facets of our industry in very unique ways.  Stay tuned for the official announcement!

As you know, I am a proud member of the non-profit Intimate Apparel Square Club (IASC.)  IASC raises funds to support pediatric rehabilitation at NYU Langone Medical Center’s RUSK Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine.  Our largest fundraiser of the year is the H.U.G. Award Gala which is held each November during Market Week.  This year’s H.U.G. Gala is scheduled for Wednesday, November 7th and will be held at 230 Fifth Avenue Penthouse.  Mark your calendars and keep your eyes open for invitations in early Fall.  We recently announced this year’s honorees which include LuAnn Via, president and CEO of Payless Shoe Source, Inc., Steve Chernoff, chairman of Rago Foundations, LLC, and the Lifetime Achievement Award is being presented to longtime Club member Janet Peters.

I’d also like to mention that the Children’s Museum of the Arts is currently exhibiting artwork created by the children in the RUSK Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine and children from PS116.  The artwork has been created through the Creating Connections program and will be on display through September 30th.  The Children’s Museum of the Arts is located at 103 Charlton Street, NYC.

I found myself wandering around the West Village on Sunday afternoon, popping in and out of specialty boutiques. I have always appreciated small, independently owned businesses. I admire their entrepreneurial spirit and their passion for taking risks on lesser known designers and brands. One of my stops was the lingerie boutique Marc and Max on Bleecker Street. I was thrilled to see that they are now carrying my favorite lingerie brand, Ann Vogue, as well as other emerging brands such as Claudette, Brulee, CLO Intimo, Tatu Couture, Addiction Nouvelle Lingerie and the exquisite LOU Paris. Next time you’re in the neighborhood, take a few minutes to admire their carefully curated selection of fine lingerie.

Last week I introduced you to the very talented Angela Friedman and her debut intimate apparel collection, the Versailles Collection. To get a look at her impeccable designs, stop into La Petite Coquette on University Place, NYC. Selected pieces from her collection are displayed in the front window. And more pieces from her range will be in store in August.

The Underfashion Club held a members-only networking event on Tuesday, June 12th. The exclusive Intimate Affair was a wine and cheese tasting event at Murray’s Cheese on Bleecker Street in the Village. Murray’s Cheese has been a neighborhood landmark in Greenwich Village since 1940. I have purchased some of the finest cheeses from Murray’s over the years and have attended some of their other tasting events and classes. Can ya tell that cheese ranks as one of my “favorite things” right behind lingerie?

In the market for some new lingerie or sleepwear at fabulous prices? KOMAR and Carole Hochman Design Group (a KOMAR company) are having their annual Sleepwear and Lingerie Sample Sale on Wednesday June 20th & Thursday June 21st. The sale is being held at 135 Madison Avenue, 4th Floor, NYC (between 31st & 32nd Streets) and will feature lingerie and sleepwear from brands including Betsey Johnson, Anne Klein, Donna Karan Collection, Company by Ellen Tracy, Nicole Miller and more.

Mode City PARIS is only a few weeks away. Be sure to register online for your badge at www.mode-city.com.  The famous Salon International du Swimwear and de la Lingerie and Interfiliere are being held from July 7th through July 9th at the Paris Expo, Porte de Versailles, Pavilion #1.

Hey there lingerie lovers!  I apologize for not keeping up with the column these past few weeks….  My personal life got in the way of my lingerie life (yes, believe it or not, I have other aspects of my life besides bras & panties!)  Nonetheless, I’m back at it and excited to report on the latest happenings in the world of lingerie.  Here are a few Intimate Insights for the Week….

Corsetry expert Angela Friedman held an Intimate Affair including a presentation of her debut intimate apparel collection, the Versailles Collection, on Saturday, June 2nd at Gallery MC on 52nd Street, NYC.  Angela has been developing her line for over five years, all while running the ladies’ department at The New York City Ballet Costume Shop, building costumes for the Glimmerglass Opera and the American Players’ Theatre and making dresses for everyone’s favorite vocalist, Adele.  The vintage-inspired designs infuse an aristocratic flair with muted dusty hues to achieve a collection that evokes beauty, elegance, romance and pure indulgence!  The collection includes real steel-boned corsets, lacy and frilly bras and panties, bias cut slips and robes, accessories and garters.  Check out this emerging brand which is designed and manufactured right here in NYC!

On Tuesday June 5th, I co-hosted an Intimate Affair – a Fall & Winter 2012 Press Preview with the US distribution company, Revival Brands.  The event featured the coming collection of the luxury, Italian hosiery brand Philippe Matignon.  Well-known all over Europe, Philippe Matignon’s high-end hosiery was introduced to the States last year and is already a favorite among nationally recognized designers, celebrities, and stylists.  The event was a tremendous success.  We introduced the brand to hosiery buyers from prominent retailers including Lord & Taylor, Macy’s and BareNecessities.com as well as to editors and writers from various media platforms and publications.  It was a real honor to have been invited to be the intimate apparel expert and brand’s ambassador for the evening.  It’s a brand I’m really passionate about.  Take a look at their selection at www.PeekBrooklyn.com or on their own site www.philippematignon.us.

On Wednesday June 6th, I had the privilege of attending the runway show for swimwear designer Caitlyn Kelly’s debut collection.  The event was held on the rooftop of 2 Gold Street in the financial district.  Her swimwear collection is daring and bold, elegant and sophisticated.  Definitely keep your eye on Caitlyn Kelly!

Are you ready for it????  It’s Full Figure Fashion Week right here in New York City!  The fourth annual event runs from June 13th through the 16th and includes runway shows, shopping events, workshops, parties, an awards ceremony and more!  Sponsors of this year’s Full Figure Fashion Week include Sonsi, Lane Bryant, Catherine’s, and of course, our favorite Plus Size Intimate Apparel site, BarePlus by BareNecessitieswww.fffweek.com

One more thought for the week…  Has anyone checked out True & Co.?  The long awaited website which claims to solve our bra fit problems with a proprietary online fit process (sans measuring tape) has finally launched.  Any thoughts?  I’d love to hear what you think.  Is this the answer?  I filled out the “simple quiz” and, unfortunately, they had no bras for me.  No surprise….

Intimate Insight: The Full Figured Chest Launches the “I Am Made To Measure Campaign”

23 May

On May 20th, The Full Figured Chest launched a campaign to debunk the myths surrounding made-to-measure lingerie.  The Full Figured Chest and five independent lingerie designers are out to demonstrate just how inclusive the independent and made-to-measure lingerie world can be.  The campaign will begin with a series of five blog posts addressing the misconceptions surrounding made-to-measure lingerie, along with demonstrating how these brands support women of all shapes and sizes.

The post series will end with a giveaway sponsored by these five well known made-to-measure designers.  The prizes will all be made-to-measure, and suitable for any and all body types.

I’m really excited about this campaign as it highlights a part of the industry that isn’t talked about as much, and it will introduce consumers to made-to-measure lingerie; especially to those who might not have normally considered it.  I look forward to seeing how it all shapes up!

The sponsoring designers are:

Ayten Gasson

The globally recognized, quintessentially British lingerie label, Ayten Gasson, supports the few remaining underwear factories in the UK.  In addition to Nottingham lace, new lace is sourced from companies based in the UK to support the few people still manufacturing in the country.

Ayten Gasson’s silk creations are stocked in some of the most exclusive boutiques in the world, such as Tallulah Lingerie, Lulu & Lush, Bordello, and Fenwick’s of Bond Street in the UK.  The label has also secured contacts with luxury department store Le Bon Marche in Paris, and many luxury boutiques in America, Europe, Israel and Dubai.  The label is also available to buy online at www.aytengasson.com.

Knickerocker:

In her Los Angeles studio, watched over by her two faithful basset hounds, Nichola Thompson creates each Knickerocker item one at a time.  Combining her practical British sensibilities and her Los Angeles sense of fun, Nichola constantly creates new and innovative pieces.

Nichola is inspired by small runs of cute and creative fabrics, as well as current trends and pop culture references.  She also believes that great lingerie is for everyone, so she focuses on accommodating custom work and custom sizing into her business.  Each piece is a work of affordable, yet wearable art.  Nichola works hard to design everyday lingerie that inspires and empowers women to embrace a part of themselves they might not ordinarily expose; even if no one else sees it!  Knickerocker products can be found at www.etsy.com/shop/knickerocker.

Toad Lillie Lingerie:

Toad Lillie transports the wearer to a fantasy land of sexy yet classic lingerie.  Named after the mysterious and exotic Toad Lily flower, each piece of lingerie exudes pure femininity.  Each piece is designed from the most luxurious silks and satins.  These indulgent confections help bring out the sensualist in your everyday.  With Toad Lillie, you’ll always be ready for the big “ta-da” moments in life.

Toad Lillie is made to order and hand crafted exclusively in silk using couture construction techniques, ensuring that each silky smooth piece of lingerie feels as luscious as it looks.  These exquisite intimates are true masterpieces with silk lined cups and gussets, French seaming, narrow hand rolled hems, hand appliqués, and gorgeously finished stitching.  They are equally beautiful turned out on your bedroom floor as they are hugging your wonderful curves.  Current stockists include exclusive boutiques like Faire Frou Frou.  Toad Lillie items can also be purchased at www.toadlillie.com.

Amuse-Bouche Lingerie:

A small, handmade label, Amuse-Bouche specializes in luxurious and unique lingerie designs featuring carefully-sourced vintage treasures, beautiful fabrics and unexpected flourishes.  Each piece is designed and created by hand in Glasgow, Scotland using vintage lace and trims, jewels, charms and embellishments, making each piece unique or very limited edition.  Taking inspiration from the Art Nouveau era or ‘la Belle Epoque’, the pieces are designed in celebration of the gloriously feminine, curvaceous and organic forms that characterized the period.  At the heart of the collections is a romantic modern Art Nouveau style; however, the designs also take inspiration from the glamour and creativity of burlesque, old and new.  Amuse-Bouche pieces can be purchased at www.amuse-bouche.co.uk/.

Rebecca Ansah Lingerie:

Rebecca Ansah Lingerie started in late 2011 by Rebecca.  It is a luxury lingerie and bodywear brand inspired through her vision of creating unique fashion forward lingerie.

Rebecca graduated from Barbados College in 2009 with a degree in Fashion Design.  She then returned to London to gain experience and develop her skills within the industry and worked with luxury lingerie brands Agent Provocateur and Kriss Soonik.
