Intimate Insight: Tatu Couture Elevates the Tattoo Trend in Luxury Lingerie

Rouge Seduire_Mimi SetWe’re halfway through January… Can you believe it?  That means Valentine’s Day is just a month away!  I think of Valentine’s Day as the Super Bowl of the Intimate Apparel industry.  I can’t think of any other Holiday that almost requires a lingerie purchase, can you? 

I’d love to hear your innovative merchandising strategies for increasing sales between now and February 14th.  Are you having a sale? Offering a Gift-with-Purchase? An in-store event?  Last year, Margo Andros of The Pink Slip in NYC’s Grand Central Station marketed a “Dear John” campaign which targeted the men that frequent her store.  She sent out a hand-written note to her best male clientele.  Margo recognizes the fact that men appreciate convenience and ease of purchase (especially when it comes to buying underthings for their loved ones!)  So she offered three Ready-To-Give “Packages” to remove the guesswork for the fellas, including optional delivery / messenger service.  It was genius, and proved to be a real success.  What do you have up your sleeve?  If you are planning something special, please let me know.  I would be happy to post it in my Weekly Column.

Intimate Insight: Bra-Sized Swimwear Line A.Ché Launches “Naturally Perfect” Search To Change Model Perception

A Che Model SearchA.Ché, a contemporary fashion forward swimwear brand designed for “the natural woman” has teamed up with Natural Model Management, a modeling agency dedicated to representing models of various shapes and sizes, while valuing each model’s natural build and body size to find the new face of A.Ché swimwear and promote “Naturally Perfect” bodies.

ache_designerAmanda Ché, founder and designer of A.Ché swimwear explains the model search, “we support the movement towards women living a healthy and confident lifestyle and to be comfortable in your own skin.” Ché adds, “in the fashion world, there is a false message that women are subjected to in many facets of their everyday life; only beautiful and sexy women are stick thin with perfect hair, perfect skin and perfect bodies. That is a make believe world and couldn’t be more destructive to young women.”

Given the opportunity to work in the swimwear industry where a model’s body is fully exposed, A.Ché wants the search to help share the message that being healthy, active, and curvy is beautiful too.  According to A.Ché they want their next model to have curves – more Kate Upton than Kate Moss.

Natural Model Management founder and model, Katie Halchishick says, “Natural Model Management is excited to team up with A.Ché swimwear to promote a healthy body image for girls and women everywhere. Girls are tired of feeling bad about themselves and it is time to show all different types of nice bodies and beautiful women, let the celebration begin.”

The 2013 A.Ché Naturally Perfect Model Search began on January 1st, 2013. To enter, all models must go to www.acheswimwear.com to fill out the online questionnaire and submit up to six (6) photographs of themselves (at least one headshot, one swimsuit front view, side view and back view). Submissions will end on February 28th. 

AChe_PippaOn February 28th, A.Ché will also announce the Semi-Finalists of the model search. Once the Semi-Finalists are announced, A.Ché will create an online profile for each finalist, where the public will be able to “vote” for their favorite model. Voting starts March 8th and will end on March 22nd.

The two finalists will be announced on March 23th on the A.Ché website. These finalists will be flown to Los Angeles (if necessary) for an exclusive party on April 13th where the winner will be announced.

The prize package will include a 1-year modeling contract with Natural Model Management, a photo shoot with A.Ché swimwear, as well as prizes from the sponsors.

Can you believe it’s almost Thanksgiving?  I have so much to be grateful for this year…  I don’t even know where to begin.  Without getting too sentimental, I would just like to say that it has been overwhelming, humbling and inspiring to watch my businesses grow.  And I have you all to thank for this!  Without you, my family, friends, fans, followers and supporters, I would not have been able to plow forward through the tough times (when I was literally working 18+ hours a day.)  I’ve learned to simply put one foot in front of the other… Planting lots of little seeds along the way.  The rewards have been priceless.  I am very blessed.  What do you have to be thankful for this year?

Here are a few Intimate Insights and Upcoming Intimate Affairs:

Last Wednesday, November 14th, luxury brand Fleur du Mal celebrated its launch by hosting an Intimate Affair at a trendy downtown NYC loft.  The event featured Parisian DJ Inez Melia and renowned Mixologist Xavier Herit.  Fleur du Mal is a signature collection of ready-to-wear and lingerie by Jennifer Zuccarini.  With years of experience, including time as co-founder of Kiki de Montparnasse and design director at Victoria’s Secret, Jennifer is a natural at creating sensual, seductive pieces that both men and women are drawn to.  Fleur du Mal provides a confidence boosting aspect to any woman’s wardrobe through specialty pieces such as a leather corset created in collaboration with famed Parisian corset maker Cadolle, a sheer tuxedo blazer, and French rose lace intimates. The line is sold exclusively through a uniquely interactive e-commerce website, FleurDuMal.com, and creates a sophisticated, fashionable and innovative way for women to shop online.  The site features highly editorial, shoppable content, where consumers can not only browse and buy the luxurious Fleur du Mal collection, they can also discover and purchase complementary lifestyle items that Jennifer adores.  Additionally, the website utilizes endless scrolling functionality and includes social media integration, making it seamless for customers to share intimate sneak peeks of their most desired wants and needs.  I was most impressed by the leather intimate apparel pieces and the clipped French Leavers lace used in constructing the bra and panty sets is exquisite.  Tres jolie!

The Intimate Affair, GO NAKED AND CHECK YOURSELF, was held on November 18th at Teak Restaurant, Red Bank, New Jersey.  The annual event is a fundraising affair dedicated to bringing awareness / prevention to detectible cancers where you can go naked and check yourself – skin, breast and testicular cancers.  The event was presented by Sugarush (a specialty bakery in Red Bank, NJ) and the award-winning lingerie boutique, Sweetest Sin

The mission of Go Naked and Check Yourself is to take the stigma of embarrassment out of checking yourself, because early detection can prevent long term issues.  All proceeds from this year’s event will benefit The American Cancer Society, Livestrong, Young Survival Coalition and Move for Hunger.  This year’s event raised over $10,000 for these non-profit organizations.  The event was sponsored in part by The Lingerie Alliance and leading designer brand for intimate lifestyle products, LELO.

Intimate Affair: ClosetDash Shop and Leading Full-Bust Blog Hourglassy to Sponsor Busty Clothing Swap

ClosetDash Shop and the leading blog for full-busted women, Hourglassy are excited to sponsor the first event of its kind, a Busty Clothing Swap from 11am-2pm on Saturday, October 20th, for women who wear dress sizes 2-16 and bra cups D and higher, at ClosetDash Shop’s new space on the fourth floor of 30 E. 20th Street in Manhattan, NYC.

“Forty women with similar body types in the same room means everyone should be able to find something she loves that fits,” says Darlene Campbell, founder of the full-busted clothing line Campbell & Kate and creator of the blog Hourglassy.  “We also have amazing raffle and gift bag items from some of the best full-bust brands out there.”  In addition, Bottomless Closet will be in attendance to accept donations of clothing.

Finding clothing that fits is a perpetual challenge for women with small backs (a 28-36 bra band) who wear D cups and higher.  Campbell began her blog in 2008 to help full-busted women discover the lingerie and clothing lines that cater specifically to them.  When she blogged about attending ClosetDash Shop’s first swap in May, she realized there was enough interest for a large-bust-specific swap.

It was only a matter of time before ClosetDash Shop’s founder, Jennifer Lee, approached her about co-sponsoring such an event.  “There’s potential for more body-specific swaps in the future,” says Lee.  “Swaps already have a fun sense of community, but imagine the shared laughter in a room full of tall women, or women with large hips, or really petite women?”

Participants will be charged a $10 admission fee and should bring up to ten items of clothing in sizes 2-16. Advanced registration is recommended, at www.cdsbustyswap.eventbrite.com.

Intimate Insight: Bra La Mode’s Los Angeles Lingerie Tour

I’m in sunny southern California for a few days – for both business and pleasure.  While here, I had the pleasure of spending a lovely afternoon with boob and bra expert, Elisabeth Dale, author of bOObs- a Guide to your Girls and founder of The Breast Life.  We took a lingerie tour of Los Angeles and its environs beginning with the award-winning luxury lingerie boutique, Faire Frou Frou.

Faire Frou Frou is located on Ventura Blvd. in Studio City, Ca.  This lovely boutique evokes the nostalgia of old Hollywood glamour.  The mother-daughter team of Gail and Alison Rubke carefully curate a selection of the world’s finest lingerie which can be best described as elegant, ultra-feminine and sophisticated. 

I commend them for including independent, emerging designers and brands in their collection.  This tiny space is chock full of discoveries!  Just inside the front door is a table featuring the retro-inspired brand Dottie’s Delights which is designed and hand-made by Stephanie Kuhr in Chicago. 

For me, the highlight of Faire Frou Frou was the discovery of a new brand, Gold Hawk.  Gold Hawk is a local Los Angeles-based brand which includes silk camisoles, tunics and nightgowns.  And Alison made a point to show me how each of the Gold Hawk pieces can easily translate into “innerwear as outerwear.”  She commented, “Even the floor-length silk gown would look fabulous with a pair of boots and a chunky sweater.”  Thanks for the tip, Alison!  Every time I picked up a piece of lingerie that grabbed my attention, it carried the Gold Hawk label! I look forward to learning more about this elegant line. 

Just a few of the other brands carried at the store include Zinke, Cadolle, Naked Princess, Marlies Dekkers, Ari Dein, The Lake and Stars, Fortnight, Janine Robin, Claudette, Fleur of England, La Fee Verte, Skin, Araks, Else, Deborah Marquit and Result Wear Shapewear.  If you’re looking to embrace your inner Glamourpuss…. head to Faire Frou Frou! 

Next, Elisabeth and I ventured “over the hill” into Hollywood to visit Jenette Goldstein at Jenette Bras on Melrose.  This funky, retro boutique was opened by the spunky Jenette Goldstein in 2009 and caters to D Cups and Up.  Jenette says that full-breasted women are “overdeveloped and underserved.”  This bra fit salon specializes in quality bras from Europe including Prima Donna, Twist by Prima Donna, Marie Jo, Empreinte, Freya, Panache, Anita and Simone Perele among others. 

The boutique is a bit “off the beaten path,” but if you’re looking for a true bra fit salon, this is the place to go.  Jenette says that the women that walk into her store are on a mission… they are looking for a properly fitting bra which she says “is indispensable for a chesty gal!”  Clients come to Jenette Bras from all over because true bra fit stores are few and far between.  Jenette also carries a small selection of lingerie, slips and shapewear from brands including Samantha Chang, Lindsey Roscoe and my friends, the Dirty Dolls.  My favorite piece in the store is an under-the-bust shaping slip by Twist by Prima Donna.  This shapewear piece is functional and practical, yet sexy as all hell….  To quote Jenette, “You will rock that hourglass, honey!”

After having a bite to eat in a local watering hole, Elisabeth and I headed west on Melrose only to discover that the boutique What Katie Did is closed on Sundays!  This did not deter us from continuing our lingerie road trip.  Our last destination was the Addiction Nouvelle Lingerie boutique on Robertson in West Hollywood.  This minimalist, modern space caters to a young contemporary consumer and carries the brands Mimi Holliday, Valery, Damaris, Lise Charmel and Nina Ricci in addition to its namesake Addiction Nouvelle.  Each of these brands is well-constructed of high-quality fabrics such as silk, satin, microfiber, and exquisite European laces.  Styles include bras, panties, camisoles, bustiers, babydolls, chemises, full slips, loungewear, sleepwear and robes.  I fell in love with the Addiction Nouvelle high-waisted brief!

It was interesting to note that each of the stores we visited had its own unique identity.  I appreciated the selection in each of these stores and would highly recommend you pay a visit depending on your personal wants and desires.
